The charity had evolved from an earlier mutual-aid society or ‘box club’ for London Scots called the ‘Scots Box’. This was designed to help impoverished merchants and craftsmen in the capital who were not entitled to Parish poor relief. A new vision
Today, the charity still holds on to its principles of supporting first and second generation Scots living in London, but is moving with the times to ensure that its operation is as efficient and effective as possible. Even with a comprehensive welfare system to support everyone on low incomes, Scots sometimes find that they need help to keep their independence. This can be anything from assisted housing, a grant to further your education or re-train or just support through rough times.
