Seeing as it is just myself and Marc blogging, as Marc mentioned previously-I guess it’s back to me to try and find something interesting to say. I’m not feeling very confident about this though.

Something we are keen to work on in the Comm’s team is our relationship with Scottish organization and groups in London. To this end, I had a really interesting meeting last week with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (London Branch) and Feis London. Both are organisations who promote and organise Scottish events in London. This year will be the 3rd Feis to be held in London, a Feis being a Gaelic festival.

As I am from Inverness, I have fond memories of the Feis which was held every year and meant all of the pubs were open until 5 am. I don’t remember that much of the Feis itself as a result. I am not a Gaelic speaker but my school had a Gaelic unit and I know lots of Gaelic speakers so I think it’s great that the Feis carries on all over the UK and not just the Highlands.

The London Feis is held in Roehampton on the weekend of the 11-13th of September. Contact feislondon@blueyonder.co.uk if you are interested. They also hold regular Monday night sessions for musicians so again use the above contact if you are interested.

I hope that ScotsCare and Borderline will be really involved with Scottish cultural events in and around London so keep checking our website for information on this and many other events and sign up for our newsletter online if you haven’t already so you don’t miss out. www.scotscare.com/newsletter.php

I have spent the last week and a half working on our donor database; adding new records, organising old ones, highlighting, de-highlighting, ticking, un-ticking, emails, gifts, etc etc etc dull etc, and i can now do things on raisers edge, excel and access that i never thought i would be able to do or had any desire to. I have got excel formulas permanently etched onto my brain. =(W2&”, “&X2)-Bet you don’t know what that means- i saddly do! I don’t ever remember getting a trivial pursuit question on them (which is how i determine if i need to know anything), so i don’t know what i’ll do with this information but I am officially a database geek.

Maybe i could join a support group, wean myself of gradually. yep.

It’s quite a transitional period here in the communiactions office as we review the previous years activities and plan for the year ahead. Over the past 12 months, we have held music gigs, fundraising dinners, had stands at various social work seminars as well as running competitions and producing 6 newsletters. We have also sponsored a Scottish Art show, started blogging and launched a new Legacies club amongst other things.

This year looks to be bigger and better with lots of exciting events and innitiatives planned over the next 12 months. We can’t wait to get started. The main goal of the Comm’s team is to communicate the charity and the work of the charity as effectively as possible to encourage new supporters and donors and reach new potential clients. We aim to keep our messages relevant and so this period of reflection over the last years activities enables us to ensure that we keep communicating as effectively as possible. We hope you will enjoy reading our newsletters, coming to our events and keeping up to date with ScotsCare though our website as much as we enjoy writing the newsletters, running the events and keeping the website packed full of up to date information.

If you have been to any of our events and would like to give us feedback or if you have an idea for a future event or fundraising opportunity, drop me a line, ross@scotscare.com. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
