We are currently recruiting volunteers for our Blether Buddies programme.
Blether Buddie volunteers phone or visit older clients on a weekly basis. The aim of the programme is to reduce social isolation and improve the emotional wellbeing of isolated and/or disabled ScotsCare clients.
Volunteer Telephone Blether Buddies
Volunteers phone clients on a weekly basis to offer a friendly chat and a listening ear. The phone calls can last between 10 to 30 minutes at a time convenient to the older person and the volunteer.
Home-Visit Blether Buddies.
A home visit Blether Buddie relationship might involve going for a coffee and chat, a walk, watching a film in the cinema; anything both parties enjoy that will provide companionship and boost the self-confidence of the client seeking support. Blether Buddies are not expected to offer any other support normally provided by ScotsCare staff or to replace the role of statutory services. The pilot area for home visiting is Camden and Islington and the area will be extended over time.
What we look for in a Blether Buddie volunteer
· Excellent communication skills, empathy, patience and sensitivity
· Ability to work unsupervised, using initiative as required
· A minimum of 6 month commitment
· Understanding of confidentiality
