Help for the Elderly
ScotsCare plays a vital role in caring for elderly Scots in London. We support the over 60s of the Scottish community with practical help and advice.
We provide financial assistance to make life easier for the elderly and to ensure the can enjoy both hot meals and heating in the winter.
The elderly are a particularly vulnerable group, especially in a city like London. In inner London, 35% of pensioners live in poverty and one third of people over the age of 60 live alone. A lack of mobility, feeling disconnected from friends and family across the country and a general worry about becoming isolated is a concern for many elderly Scots living in London.
How we help
Across the capital, we run monthly lunches were older members to the community can meet and socialise. These gatherings provide people with a chance to chat and swap stories as well as get practical advice on anything from housing and benefits to personal security and health care.
For those who are less physically able, our Befrienders go out into the community and spend time with the elderly on a weekly basis, maintaining that vital link to the outside world.
Providing communities that care
ScotsCare has 63 dedicated homes for the elderly and those with a manageable disability across London, creating welcoming communities in the heart of the metropolis.
It is this sense of community that is the driving force behind ScotsCare’s commitment to helping Scots lead a happy, healthy life in the capital, whatever their age. By drawing on the experiences of other Scots in London, we can give you practical advice and help on any aspect of life in London. Or we can just be there to listen if you need someone to talk to.
