Jock
Jock is a single man who lives on his own in a one-bedroom council flat. He moved from Edinburgh in 1992 with his family but separated from his wife two years later due to his dependence on alcohol and deterioration in his mental health.

At age 34 he was declared unfit for work and medically retired in 1982 after a serious head injury sustained at work. He became depressed and used alcohol in an attempt to cope with the realisation that he could not return to his usual employment. His mental health deteriorated over the following two years and he was admitted to hospital in 1984 suffering from a nervous breakdown. As well as suffering poor mental health Jock has angina, arthritis and emphysema.

Willie
Willie is a single man born in Glasgow, who moved from temporary housing for homeless people into an unfurnished council flat.

He spent most of his adult life in and out of prison and is now a frail 59-year old with cognitive impairment, because of his chaotic lifestyle and background. He has lost the sight in his right eye and has a hearing impairment.

Moira
Moira is a 71 year-old lady from Stirling. She lives with her 32 year-old son, but he suffers from schizophrenia and she is his main carer. He has been hospitalised in the past due to his illness but his condition is currently stable. Moira herself has suffered from severe depression for many years.
