Help to get people back into work

Luisa
Luisa came down from Glasgow 23 years ago and initially worked in office administration. However, as she wanted to develop her career within the voluntary sector she moved around various charity jobs learning different skills. She developed a lot of experience in working with ‘rough sleepers’ and those with alcohol and drug dependencies. During this time she realised that the needs of this group, of mostly socially excluded clients, were not only complex but multiple and so she decided to train as an acupuncturist.

Whilst trying to juggle the demands of a full time job and a full time college course she got into debt and felt she wouldn’t be able to realise her ambition of helping others; that’s when she discovered ScotsCare and asked for help.

ScotsCare has supported Luisa and she is now in her final year at the School of Five Element Acupuncture and volunteers at Connections at St Martins Day Centre where she operates an acupuncture drop-in clinic where she deals with young people who have a history of substance misuse and mental health problems.

As Luisa says, “ScotsCare did not just help me financially, they supported me in my efforts to train as an acupuncturist because they believed that not only could I succeed but that I then would be in charge of my life and help others in turn.“
