How we help

"When I was at my lowest, somebody helped me, had the faith in me to pull myself out of a mess and was willing to put hard cash into my future. ScotsCare do really care."
Grants to students on low incomes

Tommy
Tommy aged forty, moved to London six years ago in the hope of improving his life, sadly the reverse happened and when he approached ScotsCare last year he was heavily dependant on alcohol and drugs.
Following discussions with his support worker it was agreed that Tommy had the motivation and ability to kick his dependency so long as he had help in shaping a career. Accordingly the charity proved a grant, which enabled him to buy a computer and printer as well as books, stationery, course tuition fees and travelling expenses.
Since commencing this programme, Tommy has achieved a certificate in Advanced Counselling and has started on a two-year diploma course in Practitioner Counselling. His tutors have confirmed that despite his lack of confidence and lack of experience in essay writing, Tommy had the will to persevere and attain his goals. During this course he will undertake work placement assignments working in Prisons where his learned skills will be thoroughly tested. Ultimately he hopes to find work in substance rehabilitation or homeless centres; Tommy said, “this area of work appeals most because when I was at my lowest, somebody helped me, had the faith in me to pull myself out of a mess, and was willing to put hard cash into my future, ScotScare do really care”
